Week of March 18th 2019

This week we the team added more files to get manufactured at the central shop. we spoke with Kyle from the central shop to make sure that our parts were able manufactured with the equipment available at the central shop. he confirmed that they were. Currently we are waiting for our parts to be manufactured so we can start welding.

Presentation #1

The presentations for the whole Spartan Superway teams continued for two weeks. The updates include a current budget of about $500. Also, the team has ordered all of his material. This includes metal stock and parts from McMaster-Carr. The Water jet order has been send to Central Shop and emailed Kyle at Central Shop. The upcoming goal is the is to start working on parts that are not send to the Central Shop. Most of the manufacturing that will be done ourselves will be with the help of MakerSpace and Tech shop. The link to the presentation is provided below. Presentation 1

This week the team has purchased most of the parts needed for our designs. An order was placed and received from Mcmaster Carr which included most of the items needed for our designs. A 4' x 4' steel sheet was purchased form Sim's metal to water jet cut parts for the guide arm and articulation system. We are working on engineering drawings and drawing for the water jet machine.  We would like to send our design to be cut as soon as possible to avoid any delays. Furthermore, the braking system has been fully redesigned and completed. The braking system will be machined using the machining tools at makerspace. For the articulation system most of the parts needed to be optimized to fit standard size parts. The following picture shows a pin that was increased in size to fit a standard size ring. Because of this most parts needed to be changed too. Including the housings the articulation system. Final drawings of all parts are finished and are being sent to the central...

Week of 2/20/2019

Week of 2/20/2019 The team is ready to place an order for the main components of the design for McMaster-Car. Furthermore, the team has also visited the sims facility for acquiring metal. Akash and Josh will be sharing a 4'x4' steel sheet for their design. Currently, the team is working towards, finish up the drawings for the parts.

Guide Arm   After the move into the new location and changes in the plan for the track. There persisted the question of whether I needed to make changes to my design from last semester. On February 13, I spoke with both the guide way team and interaction team. The dependencies of my design are on the distance between the track and the mounting points on the slave and drive bogie. After consulting the team, it was confirmed the track gap will remain at 12 cm and the mounting points are going to be the same.             The goal of this semester is to manufacture and test our designs. To get start, my bill of materials is mostly done. I have selected the wheels for my design; however, McMaster-Car did not have the exact wheels the designed needed, so I had to change my design. I changed some dimensions, and decrease the number of wheels needed for the design. Furthermore, I have found the steel tubing on McMaster-Car for my design, aga...

Week 16

The team is working towards  finishing the final report for the deadline of December 17th. During the group session, the team presentations were continued. After the team presentations, the team was able to update both Dan and Ethan on the  current progress of the team. Dan was able to provide some helpful suggestions and advise for the designs. Dan suggested that for the guide arm, the tubing be bought instead of manufactured. Lastly, Dan suggested I also change the mounting a little. For articulation updated pins to fit with standard snap rings consulted Dan about possible redesigning of the mounting for the articulation system to the bogie Due to last minute changes to the Slave bogies structure. new slots will need to be made so that articulation system can fit properly

Week 15

Week 15 The focus of the whole week was preparation for the presentation. Going forward the team has a few goals left to complete. The first finish up any Design modifications that are left. Secondly, the goal is to finish the final report before the end of the semester. Lastly, the team aim to have a finished Bill of Materials. Guide Arm:  The guide arm design and assembly is complete. The mounted points have been added to both the drive and slave bogie guide arm. The last FEA was also completed for the slave bogie guide arm as show below. There are confirmed mounting points on the slave bogie. There still need to be mounting points made on the drive bogie.
